E-business term is rapidly becoming an anachronism. All
viable businesses adopted various degrees and aspects of being “e-something.”
Many are completely based online in all operations from supply to delivery channels,
through some sort of production (usually virtual goods) and extensive customer
relationship/participation processes. All such
efforts require new added value for the successful employees – ability and understanding of
using, operating, and adjusting Web-based technologies that are rapidly
becoming the main fabric of modern organizations. For those that want to advance their careers (or just to get a job in the modern competitive job market) these abilities are becoming as important as ability to read and count.
This is why we use the term Technology-Enhanced Business to emphasize the ubiquity of the skills and orientation that you will get in this course. Here we will focus on the main open-source technologies (compared to proprietary frameworks use of which is covered in Advanced Web Development course) allowing the development, support, and adjustment of the front and back ends of modern Web-based systems. The front-end coverage will include tools based on JavaScript, XML, CSS, and some other technologies. The back-end coverage will include PHP, MySQL (as and online database tool), and some other methods and technologies.
